How many times have you run that mile? How many times have you looked at your stopwatch and sighed at the missed minutes or seconds on the clock? Sport performance is an incredibly powerful driving force for athletes, and when minutes and seconds become indicators of success, making the most of every movement, every muscle, and every intentional stride, means the difference between winning and falling short. In this post, we’re looking at the ways in which physical therapy can exponentially boost your sports performance. That’s right! If you suffer from arthritis, winter is less a call for celebration, snowball fights, and snuggly evenings on the sofa, and more a cause of worry, anxiety and – sadly – pain. Colder weather seems to usher in a worsening of arthritic symptoms, and the winter months can often leave those suffering from its effects with low moods, bed bound, and even worse off than they were a year ago. So in this post, we’re looking at exactly why colder weather affects arthritic joints, how you can avoid the pain associated with this, and ultimately, how you can move forward knowing that the colder months will no longer be a cause of anxiety in your life. The term ¨ Physical Therapy¨ has been uttered for many years by many people. It is, by no means, a new concept. It is, however, widely misunderstood or not understood at all.
Have no fear! We are going to set the record straight and in a few short minutes you are going to have a whole new understanding of this very old concept. As the writer of this blog, I might have taken ¨ liberties¨ with the term expert. By putting quotes around it I figured I am now justified! Yes, I work for CustomFit Concierge Medicine, Health and Fitness. I have observed many treatments, spoken to many clients, before, during and after their course of treatments. I have heard many praises, and have witnessed many success stories. Seeing is believing…. Being an actual client has really been life changing . Now, as the above mentioned ¨ Expert ¨ here are 6 things that I have learned through my unintentional first hand knowledge.
We have all been staying at home for what seems like an eternity. We finally received an invitation to go play golf ! What inspiring words.... This seems like just what we could use right now. 1. Recognize and Accept Your New Normal
Although there are many adjustments to be made setting our minds to this environment it is better for the mind and the body to embrace this time and make changes. When we put these in place we can have them in place on a day to day basis. We thought this month would be a perfect time to talk about a really important topic: balance. Yes, that’s right, you can’t play golf, tennis, or even swim properly without balance, but more than that, walking correctly, stabilizing your body, or keeping your skeletal and muscular health in check without having the correct balance can be… uh hum… a bit of a tightrope act. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this post we talk all things balance, from why you need it, to what happens when you don’t have it, all the way through to how you can improve it. So, let’s get some stability on the subject, shall we?
