When it comes to improving our health and fitness there is an abundance of exercises we can do. However, we may not have time to do everything or have the physical capability to do some higher level exercises. So what’s one exercise that you can do anywhere, at any time, at any age? Squats!
Squats have many benefits for our overall health. They have been clinically shown to help improve our overall strength, function, and mobility at any age. They can help strengthen the muscles of our lower body and engage our core muscles. They inherently burn calories to help us lose weight. As we get older our muscles, ligaments, and tendons get stiffer, and squats help maintain and improve that flexibility. Being a weight bearing exercise, squats are very good in improving and maintaining bone mineral density of our spine and lower body. And when done right, it can reduce our risk for injury.
There are many different ways to do squats, but the most important thing is to do them correctly. As with any other exercise, proper form is of the utmost importance in order to prevent injury and maximize the benefit of the exercise. See the video below on the different variations to do squats, and how to do them properly.
